My Gastein experience
Gastein is a place worth seeing. And yet, that’s only half the story. Because if you only admire the valley’s beauty from the outside, you can never truly grasp its essence.
Only when you feel the region with all your senses do you begin to understand its real magic. For example, when you dip your toes into the icy water of a mountain lake during a hike. When you squint at the dazzling sunlight reflecting off the snow. Or when you savour the sweet dusting of sugar from a freshly baked Bauernkrapfen doughnut after stopping by a cosy mountain hut. It’s in these moments that you realise: Gastein is not just a place worth seeing – it’s a place worth experiencing.
Advent in Gastein transforms the valley into a particularly atmospheric and almost mystical winter wonderland. Between the first snowfall and the last lit Advent candle, Krampus runs, Anklöckler songs and the scent of incense combine to create an atmosphere full of peace and contemplation. Winter tranquillity, Alpine activities and living traditions merge here to create an unmistakable Advent experience - ideal for recharging your batteries and consciously enjoying the magic of the Christmas season.
Whether in spring, summer, autumn or winter: The Gastein valley invites you to explore the Alps all year round. In the warmer months, scenic hiking trails and cycling routes offer endless opportunities to discover the region at your own pace. And it’s not only on land that Gastein shows its charm – you can also dive into its lakes or take to the skies paragliding for a completely new perspective.
When winter settles over the valley, the fairytale landscape turns into a playground for adventure. Whether it’s Skiing and snowboarding, cross-country skiing or ski touring: The region’s fantastic ski areas make it easy to enjoy every flake of snow to the fullest. Those seeking peace and quiet away from the bustling slopes will find it on Gastein’s picture-perfect winter hiking trails, where time seems to slow down.
From adidas Infinite Trails to Gastein Sounds and from the FIS Snowboard World Cup toTanz:Fest: The Gastein valley hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. Whether it’s hand-picked highlights from the weekly programme, culinary experiences or international top events – saying that things never get boring in Gastein would be an understatement.
The Gastein valley is not only rich in natural treasures and sporting opportunities but also in cultural gems. Those with a passion for art and history will find fascinating insights into the region in its local museum. Music events, concerts and traditional festivities also showcase Gastein’s many facets.
