My Gastein experience
With ideal thermal conditions and the stunning backdrop of the High Tauern mountains, the region is a favourite among paragliding enthusiasts – from seasoned pilots to first-timers and tandem flyers.
Good to know: Paragliding is also possible in winter. Soaring above snow-covered peaks is one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of an Alpine holiday.
Two of the most popular launch points for paragliding in Gastein are Stubnerkogel in Bad Gastein and Fulseck in Dorfgastein. Both peaks are easily accessible via cable cars, and paragliders with their gear – harnesses included – are welcome to board the gondolas. On Fulseck, you’ll even find two launch sites just steps from the mountain station. If you’re arriving from the Grossarltal valley, the Kieserlbahn cable car takes you straight to the paragliding area. Landings take place on wide, open meadows in the valley, providing plenty of space for smooth and safe touchdowns.
Tip: Special paragliding tickets are available for the Gipfelbahn Fulseck cable car.
Never gone paragliding before but curious to take to the skies? A tandem paragliding flight is the perfect way to get started. Accompanied by certified tandem pilot Lois Grugger,, you’ll take off and soar up to 1,400 metres above the Gastein valley. Whether you opt for a short panoramic flight or an extended thermal flight: The experience promises breathtaking views and an unforgettable sense of freedom. Good to know: Children aged six and above can also join in, making paragliding in Gastein a fantastic adventure for the whole family.
In paragliding, safety always comes first. All tandem flights in Gastein are operated by certified professionals who carefully monitor weather and thermal conditions to ensure a safe and smooth flight. Curious about learning to become a pilot yourself? Gastein is a great place to start. Flugschule Salzburg offers regular paragliding courses on Fulseck – from introductory lessons to full pilot licence training. All necessary equipment can be rented on site.
After an exciting paragliding flight, the valley offers countless opportunities for relaxation or action - at any time of year. For example, how about a visit to the Gastein thermal baths, a hike on the Stubnerkogel or a winter toboggan run with the family? The mountain carts are also a hot tip for adventure-seekers.
After an exhilarating paragliding flight, the Gastein valley has plenty more to offer all year round – whether you’re looking to unwind or keep the adrenaline going. You can relax in the soothing waters of Gastein's thermal spas, explore scenic hiking trails on Stubnerkogel, or enjoy a winter sledging adventure with the whole family. For those craving even more action, don’t miss out on the thrill of mountain carting – a real insider tip for adventure seekers.
