My Gastein experience
As part of the Ski amadé network, Gastein’s four state-of-the-art ski areas offer access to over 200 kilometres of slopes – and to unforgettable experiences for alpine enthusiasts, sports lovers, families and food lovers. Whether you prefer skiing or snowboarding, freeriding or ski touring: Winter simply feels more intense in Gastein.
If you’re spending your winter holiday in the Gastein valley, you can enjoy your favourite runs over and over again – or explore new ones every day. As part of the Ski amadé network, the region offers the perfect gateway to four popular ski resorts. The Dorfgastein-Großarltal ski area features a wide range of slopes for all levels, while the Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel area entices winter sports fans with freestyle action and family fun. Nature lovers will find their happy place on the Graukogel, and thanks to its altitude of up to 2,680 metres, Sportgastein offers skiing and snowboarding with breathtaking panoramic views.
Carving your first turns at sunrise on freshly groomed snow – a truly magical winter experience in the Gastein valley.
The GASTI snow parks combine fun and safety, making it wonderfully easy for kids to discover the joy of winter sports.
Untouched mountainsides, thrilling tree runs and legendary “champagne powder”: Gastein is a true hotspot for freeride adventures away from the groomed slopes.
On three wheels down Fulseck adventure mountain: Mountain carting adds an action-packed twist to your classic ski day.
Is it your first time on the slopes together with the little ones? The Gastein valley is the perfect place to introduce young talents to skiing in a relaxed atmosphere. Lovingly designed practice areas and children’s parks offer the ideal mix of fun and safety. The experienced instructors at the local ski schools know exactly how to help young snow enthusiasts master their first turns in the snow, teaching them the basics during playful and child-friendly lessons.
Your children don’t have their own gear yet? The region’s well-equipped ski rental shops provide everything they need for a fun-filled day on the slopes.
Fresh powder runs, fast tree lines, challenging couloirs: The Gastein valley is a top destination for freeriding. The north-facing, wide slopes of the High Tauern mountains are famous for their “champagne powder”, often inviting deep-snow adventures well into the afternoon. A variety of freeride camps make Gastein a true hotspot for everyone who loves to explore beyond the groomed slopes.
Climb the mountains metre by metre, at your own pace and without the use of cable cars or lifts. At the top, panoramic views across the Gastein valley await, alongside the pride of your own achievement and the tingling anticipation of the descent to come. More and more winter enthusiasts are choosing Gastein as their base for ski touring – and for good reason. Scenic routes for beginners and advanced tourers, varied terrain at different altitudes and numerous guided tours make the region a dream destination for sports and nature lovers alike.
Looking for a change of pace? There are countless ways to explore the Gastein valley beyond the ski slopes. A wide network of trails provides a stunning alpine backdrop for cross-country skiing. Numerous winter hiking trails invite all those seeking tranquillity and unspoilt nature. And for families, the snow-sure region offers perfect conditions for fun-filled tobogganing adventures. And after all that winter action? That’s when the warm thermal waters of Gastein provide the most relaxing way to end an eventful day in the snow.
