The tour starts at the Schlossalmbahn valley station in Bad Hofgastein. Through the tunnel you reach the other side of the main road, to the right of the ski meadow the road goes up to the Kneippweg. Once you arrive at the Hotel Das Goldberg, some paths and some tarmac roads lead to the Brandnerhof. Shortly afterwards, you enter a wooded area known as the Vogeltenn. The name goes back to a time when many birds were caught in this area. Once you reach the next forest road, the ascent is complete. The trail then winds its way to the Bärsteinalm. After the Bärsteinalm, a path leads past mountain farms back down into the valley. The bird trail offers another opportunity to find out about the local bird species and to take a last look over the valley before the descent through the forest back to the starting point.
