The train is one of the most comfortable ways to reach the Gastein valley. ÖBB Railjet and Intercity trains run regularly along the Tauern Line, providing direct connections from Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Munich and many other cities. Your journey takes you through stunning alpine landscapes and ends right in the heart of the valley – just moments away from your destination.
Depending on where your accommodation is located, you can disembark at the modern stations in Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein or Bad Gastein, with easy onward travel by shuttle, bus or taxi.
Particularly practical: with the ÖBB shuttle service , you can book your onward journey with your train ticket. If you book by 8 pm the day before , you will be picked up at the station and taken to your accommodation in comfort.
The Gastein valley is easily accessible via the Tauern Motorway (A10) and the Bischofshofen exit. From there, the route winds through green valleys and past the first mountain peaks, leading you directly to Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein or Bad Gastein.
The drive through the Alps is both scenic and well signposted. Ample parking is available in all three towns – at mountain cableway stations, thermal spas and accommodation options. For electric vehicles, numerous EV-charging stations make sustainable travel by car easy and convenient.

The nearest airport to the Gastein valley is Salzburg Airport (SZG). From there, regular transfer and shuttle services take you directly to the valley – your holiday destination is just about an hour and a half away. There are also excellent connections from Munich, Vienna and Innsbruck, whether by train, shuttle or a combination of transport options.
