My Gastein experience
Whether you travel by train, car or plane: Every journey to Gastein starts with the same feeling – the joy of arriving in the mountains. Just 90 kilometres south of Salzburg, the valley unfolds in all its scenic beauty, inviting you to slow down and take a deep breath. And the best part: With excellent connections and climate-friendly transport options, your trip to Gastein can be just as relaxing as your stay there.
The train is one of the most comfortable ways to reach the Gastein valley. What makes Gastein truly special is that every village has an easily accessible railway station.
ÖBB Railjet and Intercity trains run regularly along the Tauern Line, providing direct connections from Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Munich and many other cities. Your journey takes you through stunning alpine landscapes and ends right in the heart of the valley – just moments away from your destination.
Depending on where your accommodation is located, you can disembark at the modern stations in Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein or Bad Gastein, with easy onward travel by foot, shuttle, bus or taxi.
Dorfgastein can also be reached every two hours and is well connected to the public transport network .
Regular bus connections from Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein and Schwarzach i. P. make Dorfgastein easy and convenient to reach - ideal for your journey to the Dorfgastein-Großarltal ski area and the regional leisure activities.
Bad Hofgastein train station is connected to the rail network every two hours.
Thanks to the excellent bus connections within the Gastein Valley, the village can still be reached by public transport almost every hour . From here you can quickly reach the ski areas, hiking trails and thermal spas in the valley.
Bad Gastein is the most important long-distance transportation hub in the Gastein Valley and is served by direct connections from Salzburg, Vienna, Munich, Frankfurt, Graz, Zagreb and other cities every hour.
Particularly practical: a direct overpass leads from the station to the Felsentherme thermal spa and the valley station of the Stubnerkogelbahn - ideal for quick access to the thermal spa and skiing experience.
Particularly practical: With the ÖBB shuttle service , the onward journey from Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein train stations can be booked together with the train ticket. If you book by 8 p.m. the day before , you will be picked up at the station and taken to your accommodation in comfort.
