My Gastein experience
Colloquially known as Nassfeld, this high plateau now enchants visitors year-round with untouched nature and unforgettable experiences. From summer hikes and cosy alpine huts to snow-sure ski slopes in winter: Every moment in Sportgastein feels like standing on top of the world.
In summer, Sportgastein reveals its peaceful, picturesque side: vibrant alpine meadows, crystal-clear streams, and a wide network of hiking trails ranging from easy family walks to more demanding alpine routes. A true highlight is the hike to the idyllic Bockhartseen lakes, where the surrounding peaks are mirrored in the still waters. The trail to Hagenerhütter mountain hut – or continuing on to the Silberpfennig summit – rewards hikers with breathtaking scenic views.
After a wonderful hike, the alpine huts in Sportgastein offer the perfect place to unwind. These rustic alpine eateries serve regional specialities with genuine hospitality. Surrounded by towering three-thousanders, a hearty mountain snack tastes even better. And with a bit of luck, you might even witness a traditional alpine festival – adding music, culture, and local flair to your summer in Sportgastein.
The culinary hut walk is where movement meets indulgence most delightfully. This guided hike takes you from hut to hut through the breathtaking landscapes of the Hohe Tauern National Park. At each stop, local hosts serve up regional delicacies and refreshing drinks. Held on select summer dates, these alpine walks are also being held as green events.
What makes Sportgastein particularly unique is its expansive valley floor, where you can hike in summer and winter alike and still feel surrounded by majestic 3,000-metre peaks – a true nature experience in the alpine pasture region, where horses, cows, sheep and goats spend the alpine summer together.
Sportgastein captivates not only with its scenic hiking trails but also with unique sights, natural wonders, and insightful guided tours. History and technology enthusiasts can explore the historic show power station for a glimpse into the early days of alpine energy production. Nature lovers, on the other hand, will be drawn to the Kötschachtal valley, where the Nassfelder Ache, a crystal-clear mountain stream flows through the landscape — a living testament to the richness of life in the Alps.
When the towering three-thousand-metre peaks are blanketed in glittering snow, Sportgastein transforms once more into a world-renowned winter sports paradise. At the highest ski area of Ski amadé, snow enthusiasts will find woderful winter hiking trails, perfectly groomed slopes, breathtaking ski touring routes, and expansive powder-snow descents. Whether you’re carving on skis, freeriding through untouched champagne powder, or gliding along cross country ski trails: The high plateau delivers unforgettable Gastein experiences in crisp mountain air.
And don’t miss one of the season’s highlights: the full moon dinner, where fine cuisine meets the magic of a starlit winter night.
