My Gastein experience
Away from the groomed slopes, sporty adventures and intense encounters with nature await those who appreciate the peaceful side of winter. Step by step, pristine ascents lead to spectacular viewpoints.
The region’s special advantage: Thanks to its favourable altitude, high-alpine ski tours are often possible well into spring. Perfect conditions for making the most of the winter season!
From beginners to seasoned pros, the Gastein valley offers rewarding tours for every skill level. Those who want to give the sport a try will find well-marked beginner routes, for example, at Stubneralm, around Lake Spiegelsee or on Graukogel. More experienced ski tourers can take on the more challenging routes at Fulseck, Schlossalm, Sportgastein or also on Graukogel.
The Gastein Valley offers ideal conditions for ski tours close to the slopes. Marked ascent routes enable enjoyable vertical meters along the slopes and easy-to-plan ski tours for beginners and advanced skiers alike.
Sportgastein at the head of the valley is the classic starting point for high alpine ski tours in the Gastein Valley. The tours lead into terrain with greater differences in altitude and often also into high-altitude areas of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The Angertal valley and areas around Bad Gastein also offer high mountain tours in open terrain.
Due to the high altitude conditions, these routes are suitable for experienced ski tourers and require good preparation and orientation in the terrain.
Alongside a healthy respect for nature, good preparation is the key ingredient for safe ski tours. Before setting off, always check the weather and avalanche reports, go over your chosen route and make sure you have the required safety equipment – including an avalanche transceiver, a probe and a shovel. For even greater safety, join a guided tour with an experienced mountain guide who knows the terrain and leads you through the varied landscape.
